Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant, founded in London, England in 1698.
The family reserve at No.3 St James’s Street is stored deep beneath its Grade 2 listed premises. A series of historical cellars provides safe, climate-controlled storage for the family’s private wine collection.
BB&R’s dark old wine cellar was reconditioned to modern standards, with a new, lit customer experience.
Low-level direct and indirect lighting guides visitors through the 5 cellar rooms to the consultation table.
Small magnetic spotlights provide focal points of light to the valued wines and highlight labels and old maps on the walls. Hidden amber lighting brings the fireplaces to life, reminding the visitor of the cellar’s origins.
All lighting is set in different scenes to enable the space to be used for stocking, visitor experiences, and consultation.
The warm, welcoming low-level lighting lets visitors experience the old cellar in a modern way that is sympathetic to its origin and long heritage life.
